About Freedom Factory
Though we may be making progress in many areas, contemporary society nonetheless faces great challenges. In particular, in those areas that government dominates, it seems that no matter which political party gains power—or how much money governments spend on addressing social issues—things remain largely the same. Where have we gone wrong? Is it that we're simply yet to find the right people for the job? Would things be better if only "our" leaders were elected or "our" policies enacted? Are there any real alternatives to the status quo?
The Mannkal Foundation believes there is, which is why Freedom Factory was established in 2009 as a forum for those interested in the ideas and principles that underpin a truly free society. We aim to give tomorrow's future leaders a clearer understanding of personal and economic freedom by highlighting the importance of individual liberty, free exchange, and the extent to which government action promotes or hinders social progress.
We should point out that this event is not about political slogans or partisan positioning! We invite a number of leading thinkers, political leaders, commentators and academics to speak to students and young professionals on a range of topics and discussion and debate is encouraged.
For many attendees, this will be your first exposure to classical liberalism and libertarianism but our hope is that, with an open and inquisitive mind, you will find Freedom Factory informative, provocative, challenging, and fun!
Theme for 2011
The 2011 theme will focus on the bi-partisan reform in Australia which lasted from approximately 1983-2000. Why was this period in our history such an economic success? What factors brought about its demise? And, what sort of reforms will future leaders need to implement if we are to have real economic growth and prosperity?
| Everyone carries a part of society on his shoulders; no one is relieved of his share of responsibility by others... Everyone, in his own interests, must thrust himself vigorously into the intellectual battle. None can stand aside with unconcern; the interests of everyone hang on the result. - Ludwig von Mises |
